In this observational study, we explore the growing popularity of office games and the impact they have on employee morale and productivity.
The study was conducted in a large software consulting company in the heart of Silicon Valley. The firm prided itself on being at the forefront of innovation, and there was a palpable sense of competition among the staff. The company, therefore, encouraged its employees to participate in office games that happened every week as a way to foster team building, reduce stress, and improve employee work satisfaction. The study was conducted through careful observation of employees during office hours and public data collection from the Human Resources department.
From the various games we observed, team building games were the most common. These games were designed to break the ice among staff members who didn’t know each other or had little interaction.
