SLOT car racers descended on the South Downs holiday village in Bracklesham Bay for the 1/24 scale British Open Championships.

Event host Antony Hawkes, 60, who has been involved with the sport since the late 1960s, was pleased with the event’s success.

“We had competitors from the Czech Republic, Italy and Portugal, as well as throughout the UK, and there was a different winner each day,” he said.

“To get the racers all in one place was very, very good.”

One racer even set a track record of 160 feet in 4.1 seconds.

Organisers also have their fingers crossed that next year the venue could host the world championships.

A representative from the International Slot Racing Association was present for last weekend’s championship to see how the event went, and judge the venue’s suitability.
