- For the past 17 years, Mike Mason of Lakeville has been entertaining the Valley with his slot car racetrack. Better known as Racers’ RecRoom, it is the only precision scale model raceway in Atlantic Canada where you can race slot cars on a 110-foot, off-set figure-eight, six lane race track.
Originally popular in the 1950s, slot car racing has been making a comeback. We first heard about Racers’ RecRoom six years ago and decided to check it out. We went with a group of adult friends and have been going annually ever since. We have never taken the boys, however, as we weren’t sure if they were old enough.
Participants sit on a stool and squeeze a trigger to make the car go around the track. The harder you squeeze, the faster you go. It’s not as easy as it sounds, though! It’s recommended for children ages six and up, but Mason has had children as young as three participate.
