Ever wonder what it’d be like to ride in a slot car? Audi of Canada has, and it attached a camera to the top of an Audi A4 slot car to show us what it’s like to race on a miniature scale.
Part of a publicity stunt in Toronto last month showing off Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system, Audi Canada teamed up with Slot Mods USA to build both the course and the A4 slot cars. Slot Mods created each A4 slot car by scanning the real car with a laser, printing body shells with a 3D printer, and then attaching it to an all-wheel-drive slot car chassis.
Each car is controlled wirelessly through a specially designed iPad app. The app not only allowed drivers to control the slot cars, but also to get a first-person look at what the car was doing, thanks to small cameras built into each slot car.
You can check out the first-person video of the action, and also get an overhead view of the track below. Don’t blink at the six-second mark, or you might miss Audi’s jab at rival BMW.
